Of course people will use it. Look at the Tonawanda Rail to Trail! It's attracting hundreds of people! It'll connect Buffalo to Niagara Falls which is a huge attraction.

We would surely be better off without a highway in front of our houses. Closing the West River Parkway exit from the 190 & enforcing speed limits should allay fears that West River Rd. would become dangerous. That doesn't, in any event, happen in the winter, when the parkway is mostly unused.

This is a good thing for ALL of Grand Island and ALL of Western New York

What a fantastic resource that waste of a road could be if turned into a park. Other locations have the benefit of rails-to-trails, but Parkway-to-bikeway along the Niagara? Nothing anyone else can claim.

The two roads are redundant, put in the bike path.

I am an avid biker and making the Parkway on West River would be wonderful to not only the bikers, but the walkers, roller bladers, and long boarders who all enjoy West River.

"Imagine...No more 55 mile an hour vehicles (more like 65-70) flying past families on bikes just a foot away. A SAFE, wide, walking and biking path for the entire Island to enjoy." Why would you ever ride your bike on the parkway when there is the wide shoulder on West River Road? If you are currently riding your bike on the parkway when there already is a much safer option then you need to reevaluate your decision making process.

We need to keep the bike/pedestrian path as close to the River as possible for ALL to enjoy. Please don't put the path between the service road and Parkway. Why even bother then!

Close the parkway, please. It's in horrible shape and the State will not repair.

Why on earth would you vote against the bike path, you would think you would want to be part of promoting healthy lifestyle

I believe that a bike path along the upper Niagara River would be a great benefit to all especially those that live in Riverside and Tonawanda. Maybe the path could go to Sheridan Park and towards the Erie Canal in North Tonawanda.

My name is Christian Garlapow, a lifetime west river resident who has ridden more laps of Grand Island than any other human. I have competed in professional bicycle races from Beauce, Quebec to San Cristobal, Venezuela. I have a drawer full of Empire State Games cycling medals. Secondly, I engage in 'functional cycling' every day. Functional cycling is utilizing ones bicycle for every day chores like going to the grocery store, bank, post office, and taking my kid to pre-k. Thirdly I engage in 'dawdling cycling'; riding at a leisurely pace simply to smell the roses. If there ever were an expert on cycling, it is me. None of these forms of cycling will be improved by either closing the lower parkway or adding another strip tarmac. If $$$ is to be spent on bicycle paths on Grand Island, it would be best spend improving the prospects for 'functional cycling' on GI (which is sorely lacking). Ft. Collins, Colorado is the benchmark for 'functional cycling' in the US and should be held up as the model to be emulated. The solution for west river is to lower the speed limit on the upper road to 25mph, enforce the speed limit, and add signage/ road markings indicating that west river is a cycling route.

Go for it! For safety sake, for families sake! Whatever reason. Just do it!
