A walking/biking path along the river would be a great addition to the other paths already here on the island. I personally use them everyday!

I believe many people who are against closing the parkway have very ligitimate concerns regarding the Stste's upkeep and maintenance of a new bike path. The State has been a poor neighbor to West River Homeowners for decades. I myself must pay a neighbor every year to cut the grass in the median in front of my house, which to me represents an additional burdensome tax to pay for maintenance the State should be performing to maintain its property which abuts 100+/- privately owned homes. Also, the State and Town have been sorely remiss in its record keeping. Apparently, no one in the Grand Island Legal, Engineering or Town Clerk's Departments nor the State Parks or DOT Departments can find the original condemnation proceeding paperwork, which would have outlined the State's responsibilities for the parkway's and median's maintenance. Shameful! I am in favor of closing the parkway and it's conversion to a bike path for all NYS residents to enjoy the beautiful views and recreational opportunities the Niagata River has to offer, but only with the ironclad execution of an extensively detailed grass cutting, tree trimming and dead or diseased tree cutting schedule, as well as the removal of invasive and view obstructing underbrush which obscures the view for West River homeowners as well as any potential bike path users. Additionally, no new parking lots need to be created. Existing overlook sites should be sufficient for kayak launching, etc. and accommodations for access for Border Patrol Agents and duck hunting can intelligently and functionally be incorporated into the area abutting the parkway conversion to a recreational bike path. Language within an ironclad legal document between the Town and the State, detailing each partie's responsibilities for the maintenance and repair of the property between the service road and the river must be executed and provided to the public. No excuses, such as budgetary cutbacks, inadequate staffing or equipment, would be tole

Yes to the bike path. The West River residents don't own the river front and are repugnant for holding that land hostage. Enough of these selfish tactics. I say YES!

The Bike Path along West River is one of the best proposals I have heard for Grand Island. There is no need for a 55 MPH "parkway" with out-dated curbing, no shoulders, and cracked old style cement pavement. Replacing this with something we can really use will be a true asset to our Island.
