Post pandemic Sevenoaks District Council funded the popular temporary road closure allowing pubs, cafes, and restaurants on Bank Street, Sevenoaks to benefit from outside tables and chairs and allowing people to enjoy drinks and meals outside.
Unfortunately, we have been told that to make the change permanent will cost over £6,000 pounds, and although Sevenoaks District Council was able to find the money for the temporary closure, we don’t have a budget for this work. Join us in asking the local Kent County Councillor Richard Streatfield to fund the work from his Highway Fund

The massive surge in support for keeping Bank Street open proves that our community is finished with the stingy excuses coming from Kent County Council. Richard Streatfield can no longer hide behind budget claims when it is perfectly clear that the public demands this investment.

We hit our first hundred signatures because people are sick of watching local businesses suffer while the money sits in Council pockets. Richard Streatfield needs to stop stalling and move the funds to protect Bank Street instead of ignoring the community.

We are grinding toward one hundred signatures and Kent County Councillor Richard Streatfield needs to see this number keep climbing. Stop letting him ignore Bank Street while our local businesses struggle for space. Send this link to anyone in Sevenoaks today so he realizes we are not going to be quiet until he dips into that Highway Fund.

There doesn't even need to be a way through for cars here and £6000 essentially for a sign to say 'no vehicles' is absolutely ridiculous. That area of the town has been thriving since the temporary permission was granted. Surely this is what you want within a town!
So much better to be able to walk around these little roads safely without traffic. Like Sevenoaks very own ‘Brighton Lanes’. Let the cars and vans have the main roads. Even better if you can eat outside on a nice warm day.
The road closure has bought more people into town, allowing them to relax outside the shops and pubs. These people go on to use other businesses while they are in town. At a time when businesses really need the customers enabling them to continue trading, I think it important to help them do so.
This road closure is definitely helping surrounding businesses, and traffic coming through Bank street makes it quite hazardous for pedestrians, I myself have been clipped by a van driving through at excessive speed, fortunately only lightly but could have been worse.
Bank Street should remain pedestrian only, to help local businesses, for the pleasure of local residents (it's just 3 mins walk from my home) and visitors, and for environmental reasons too. We don't want or need cars driving through here.
The narrow cut through road is safer without cars using it as it is in regular use by shoppers/pedestrians and recently street cafes creating an attractive relaxing scene.

This is the nicest part of Sevenoaks, being pedestrian and safe to walk. My 7 year old daughter is in a wheelchair and we appreciate sitting outside the cafes and enjoying the lovely atmosphere.
