Subject: Immediate Reinstatement of Division I Baseball at Boise State University
Dear Mr. Dickey,
We, the undersigned students, alumni, faculty, fans, and supporters of Boise State University, respectfully petition your leadership to reinstate the Boise State University Division I baseball program with immediate effect. The discontinuation of this storied program in 2020 left a void in our university’s athletic legacy, community pride, and opportunities for student-athletes. We believe that bringing back Division I baseball aligns with Boise State’s commitment to excellence, growth, and fostering a vibrant campus culture.
Boise State University has a proud tradition of competitive athletics, and baseball was once a cornerstone of that identity. The Broncos baseball program, prior to its elimination, provided a platform for talented athletes to compete at the highest collegiate level, contributed to the university’s national visibility, and strengthened community ties in Boise and beyond. Its absence has diminished the diversity of athletic opportunities available to students and deprived the university of a sport with deep regional and cultural significance in the Mountain West.
We recognize the financial and logistical challenges that led to the program’s suspension. However, with Boise State’s continued growth, robust donor support, and the leadership of President Tromp and Athletic Director Dickey, we are confident that the university is now in a position to restore this program. Reinstatement would not only honor the legacy of past players and coaches but also attract new talent, boost enrollment, and enhance the university’s reputation as a premier Division I institution.
We, the petitioners, urge you to:
- Reinstate the Boise State University Division I baseball program for the upcoming academic year.
- Allocate sufficient funding to ensure the program’s competitiveness within the PAC-12
- Engage with stakeholders—including alumni, current students, and the Boise community—to build a sustainable foundation for the program’s success.
The return of Division I baseball would reaffirm Boise State’s commitment to providing comprehensive athletic opportunities and fostering school spirit. We respectfully request a formal response to this petition and a clear timeline for the program’s reinstatement by no later than April 30, 2025.
Thank you for your leadership and dedication to Boise State University. We look forward to working together to bring Bronco baseball back to its rightful place on campus.

We chose to move to the Boise area mostly because we'd heard that Boise State was going to have a baseball team, but that dream was taken away from my son because you canceled the entire program. We'd very much like to see it come back so my son can have the opportunity to live out his dream.
In full support of BSU having a baseball program. If cost challenges, etc for proper infrastructure may I suggest doing something with the Boise minor league A team and /or City as a temporary solution. Respectfully, Frank Muguira
Our 12u coach from Californias future was ripped out from under him with no warning as he moved here from California to play for BSU Baseball when the program ended. Now he doesn't get to finish his years at BSU as a player and it kills him.
It is disheartening as a coach in Idaho that we do not have institutions that allow our best players to stay home and compete at the highest level. Our top talent has to leave our home state for D1 opportunities and that is a shame.
Idaho needs a division 1 baseball program to support. The treasure valley fills your football stadium on a weekly basis and would do the same for baseball. Look at the local high school levels. Baseball is the number one sport in Idaho. Look at the club teams available. There is too much evidence to ignore.
Outside of baseball obviously being the best sport, it’s now more important than ever to have a team considering we no longer have an MLB affiliate team.
Boise needs baseball!!! It’s a Boise legacy!!

I had the privilege to help the last team with vision therapy under the supervision of Dr Scott Lewis. It was heartbreaking news when the BSU baseball team was canceled. Please bring it back.
