BIS - Tuition Fees Reduction Appeal

Look at what ISHMC has done and then soon what SSIS (a non-profit entity) will soon do. This isn’t a dig at teachers. This is a a petition against a global for profit institution which puts its profits and shareholders before its students and families and teachers.

Do you actually know what the net profit margins are at BIS? By the likes of your comment, you clearly don’t. BIS is a highly profitable private, for-profit international school. Let’s do some quick, easy math to refute your claim that you believe that a high-quality school like BIS is paying up to 65-70% of tuition fees and revenue to teacher and administrative salaries. BIS has 1,800 students for which it collects on average of $30,000 usd in fees (probably even a sligh under estimation). That’s $54 million in revenue. Let’s say 2/3 of those fees go to teachers and administration, so you’re saying that’s $36 million for their salaries and benefits. And let’s just say for fun that there are 200 foreign teaching and administrative staff (it’s probably not even 150). That’s an average salary/benefits of $180,000 usd per person. What about the teaching assistants and other staff supported by the school you ask? Well, let’s start with the Vietnamese teaching assistants. Does anyone want to venture a guess on their average salaries? If you guess less than 20 million Vnd per month, you’d be correct. And want to know what else, they have been forced to take a 25% pay cut during this period. And what about other support staff such as janitorial, security, drivers, or others, please feel free to ask the school if those employees still have jobs or never mind full pay. Before you as an anonymous poster who probably is a shill for Nord Anglia post something ridiculous as this, have the courage to identify yourself. And also learn some simple financial math.

Move schools then. Good luck finding a better one.

We are extremely disappointed at the disjointed way all of the online education is being organized. With a for-profit institution in education like Nord-Anglia, their first motive and priority is profit. These profits are at the expense of our children’s education and at the expense of many of the staff, especially the local teachers and administrators who are underpaid and even being forced to take pay cuts. BIS is currently collecting on full tuition for this semester while cutting operating expenses. This means that their profits for this semester are maintained while our children and many staff suffer. This is clearly unethical and hypocritical since the school is still profiting from this quarter. Thanks for the education you are giving to the entire group of BIS families who have put our faith in this institution to educate our children. If appropriate actions are not take in terms of transparency and remuneration of fees for our children, we should all leave this school.

Another morale crushing petition with digs at teachers. Most teachers are working even harder than normal right now because everything takes longer than it would in person. If holidays are taken away or teachers' wages are cut, you won't get the level of teaching you're hoping for. Name the other schools who have given refunds or fee reductions please. Have these schools also been offering intensive e-learning too?
