That something like this could happen in a hospital is saddening, sickening and outright deplorable

No more trusting cops! They've become more dangerous than criminals even when there's a low crime rate in this nation!

Guns do not belong in hospitals, church or schools. This country has it's priorities in the wrong place. Mental illness has got to have more respect

Guns have no place in hospitals. Trained security professionals could have properly dealt with this situation. Black men are being gunned down at alarming rates. This MUST End.

Outrageous and sickening!

I am a retired psych Occupational Therapist and I'm horrified that this could happen in a hospital. A true failure of the system. Guns do not belong in this setting. And the fact that he was charged with assault is outrageous.

No words. What a gross violation of patient trust, medical ethics and most basic humanity. Police brutality against people of color needs to be recognized for the epidemic that it is.

Guns have no place in hospitals as well as schools, playgrounds, movie theaters and the list goes on and on. I fear more being shot or killed by a gun than a terrorist attack.

I am a retired social worker who worked in a community mental health center and other mental health settings. All staff was trained in defusing situations and intervening without excessive force. Above all, we expected to treat our patients with respect and to acknowledge their fundamental dignity. We did not use weapons, and any police officer who was present in our institution was expected, when necessary, to help with our patients using our protocols, not with guns or tasers.

This case is outrageous. A mentally disabled young man comes for help and instead he is shot at a hospital. This is getting out of hand even the off duty police officers are harming people. He should be charged.

This is terrible sad. This was completely mishandled.

I am appalled at the treatment of a patient within a hospital. Not to mention the threat posed to other patients as well. This is deplorable on so many levels. From the aspect of a patient, the aspect of a patient experiencing mental issues, the aspect of the medical professionals and how the treated the patient and how they dealt with the patient's family. Absolutely deplorable.

My husband is a psych nurse of 32 years. He is appalled.

This is the most abhorrent case of patient abuse and mismanagement that I have had the displeasure to hear of in a long time. Shooting a patient, for ANY reason, flies in the face of the mission of MDs, RNs and other medical professionals. This must never occur again. We have a duty to protect our patients and will vigorously do so, even if they are combative towards us. Steps need to be taken to ensure no patient is ever threatened with death again who seeks medical help in a fragile state of mental health. This is SHAMEFUL AND OUTRAGEOUS.

I have been a nurse for 23 years and have dealt with many agitated patients. Guns have no business in any healthcare facility. Healthcare should be holistic, meaning mind, body and spirit. It is obvious that an aspect of this patient's health was in need of care. My thoughts are with you and your family during this time.

We need to upgrade our mental help for our citizens. This young man went to the hospital for help and now he is wounded and arrested. Not much help there.

This petition says it all. We need healing. And love. And FAR fewer guns. And comprehensive mental health compassion.
