I'm not a medical doctor, but you don't need to be a doctor or nurse to realize that Alan Pean was treated in a completely unacceptable and immoral manner. Hospitals should be places of healing, not violence.

This should not have happened. I have been a nurse for 30 years, and can not imagine this event. Steps should be taken to make sure that it does not happen again.

Alan was a patient, not an inmate, but with that said, I treated inmates in my care at Marion Co. Jail better than this!

Put a stop to this terrible injustice! Patients need to know they can feel safe in a medical setting. The moment they don't, they will stop seeking medical care!

I have worked in healthcare for 20 years .. guns never need to be used. Ever.

I was formerly an OB-GYN nurse. I can remember dealing with ex-husbands and boyfriends, one or two with guns, but we were able to talk the anger down, with some assistance from Security. Noone was ever shot!

In no way is it EVER ok to assault a patient that is being disruptive. There are always other options. Personally, I would feel less safe with armed officers around me at work. They clearly do not understand how to safely handle aggressive patients, and, in my opinion, would do more harm than good. We take an oath to do no harm. Bullet wounds clearly violate this oath.

We are outraged that someone who was discharged mere minutes after seeking care in a medical center and clearly needed referral and/or immediate treatment for mental health issues, is now a victim of 'shoot first, ask no questions at all' mentality of many in law enforcement who continue to drink the 'blue kool-aid'. GUNS have NO PLACE in HOSPITALS. PERIOD.
