The truth must be revealed.

Best practices in the delivery of healthcare are for the public good. Lacking sound protocol hurts. I believe we witnessed this in the unfortunate incident involving Alan Pean and St. Joseph's Hospital.

I have cared for confused patients combative patients and have needed the assistance of the medical center officers to help settle or stabilize a patient to ensure the patients safety not to jeopardize it. I am outraged by the events that lead to the life threatening injuries Alan sustained. A hospital should be a safe haven for workers and patients not a war zone with casualties. I have worked in level I trauma ICUs and level I emergency dept where my safety has been at risk. Despite the frustration and fears a patients safety comes first. I would not have it any other way !!!!

Justice must be served

How a civilian can get shot within a hospital, is beyond me! That's like going to the police station to get help, and then being put in jail or worse. This needs a full investigation & awareness. Greetings & Sokidarity from Berlin, Germany.

I hope he and his family gets justice! Enough is enough! Police officers needs to be trained properly when dealing with the public.

Justice for that Young man, he's a human .

I have no words for this inhumane atrocity. As a healthcare profession, I cannot understand how the shooting of a combative patient who willing came to the hospital to seek medical attention for a decompensating psychiatric condition could be the victim of this. There are protocols in place. No to mention he was unarmed. As police officers with extensive training ( I would hope ), how can they give up fighting and settle with shooting an unarmed man in the chest. What is more troubling is how the aftermath is being handled. you charge a man who likely does not have capacity for assault? WHAT is wrong with you people.

Something is not right at all

If this turns out to be substantiated, a patient was almost murdered by the actions of the police and hospital itself. Appalling on many levels.

Prayers for Alan (Dr. Pean & family )

Since this was first reported I have kept an eye on the media sure that the hospital would fall on its sword and apologize publicly to this man and his family. Clearly this could happen again tomorrow at St. Joseph Medical Center in Houston , Texas. I believe that this hospital should be closed down until patient safety can be guaranteed.

We support Alan Pean and sorry for this situation. We know him as a wise man, not a suspect.
