"Anyone who has worked in a hospital setting for any period of time is aware of the protocols and medical resources -pharmacological and nonpharmacological--at its disposal to manage any patient’s agitated or combative behavior non-violently. There are multiple methods of intervention and amelioration to protect a disoriented patient from hurting himself or others. Utilizing a gun is not an option. Utilizing a gun against a patient is anathema to our professional standards."

This is outrageous. I cannot eben wrap my mind around an unarmed patient being shot while in the cafe of medical professionals.

Treating a patient in such a manner flies in the face of every principle of medicine. Are we simply to shoot or execute patients we don't wish to deal with now?

Don't have to be a doctor to know that treating with a gunshot will not cure an illness.

This is unfathomable. Two grown men couldn't restrain a mentally ill man without the use of possibly lethal force? An injectable tranquilizer would have solved any problems. Sue the hospital and fire the thugs. Hope your son recovers.

I am absolutely APPALLED at the militarization of the so-called "security" at St. Josephs Medical Center. It is clear that the shooter, and the hospital system that is enabling him, saw Alan Pean as an *enemy* and NOT as a patient whatsoever. Alan Pean was not a member of ISIS - he was a *voluntary* patient who became frightened and agitated during the process of self-admission - a *common* response, and one that should not be a cause for a SHOOT-TO-KILL ORDER. St. Joseph's is acting as a black-ops venue, not as a proper ethical, professional and legitimate *medical mental-health facility.* This situation is deserving of a Department of Justice investigation and I for one am calling for such as a medical professional in the mental health field.

I sign this petition on behalf of myself and my granddaughters, Katie and Allie Morales. As a retired surgeon who gave 55 years of service to patients seeking all kinds of medical help, I am shocked by this whole situation and by the behavior of the staff at St. Joseph's Medical Center. Our thoughts and prayers are with Alan and the Pean family.

How could any hospital refusing treatment to someone in needs. The staff of that hospital needs to be accountable for their horrible action toward Alan Pean.

I have had the same problem of being unable to get past the event of a patient being shot. Our local paper and TV stations published the story within about 3 hours of the event and included that the police had determined it to be a justifiable shooting. We cannot let that stand and those of us in healthcare must pursue this cause till it is not remotely possible that it will ever happen again.
