Working in the ER and seeing mentally ill, or impaired individuals is ROUTINE. We have mechanical restraints that can be used, as well as physical RESTRAINT ONLY until the patient calms. If these do not work, pharmacological intervention is used that is safe and takes immediate effect. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE SHOULD AN UNARMED PATIENT HAVE BEEN "TASERED", NEVERMIND SHOT WITH A GUN!! The same old "feared for my safety b.s." is an illogical argument when NO OTHER TRIED AND TRUE METHODS OF SUBDUING A PSYCH PATIENT WERE ATTEMPTED. The officers should be arrested immediately, and a thorough investigation performed. This is a disasterous abuse of power, that clearly displayed what happens when you have people with a complete lack of self control, forthought or training in interactions with psych patients...carrying WEAPONS.

It is abhorrent to me that people with whom I aspire to work have become the manifestation of why I am compelled to interfere in social justice.

This sounds like excessive force which definetly was not needed in the hospital setting. May God continue to bless this family. My thoughts & prayers are with you.

I stand with shaken hands and roated conviction to speak my outrage for Alan C. Pean who was inexcusably shot in the chest by a police offiocer, whie sweeking care as a patient.

I am so tired of the first response in any situation involving a person of color being to shoot. This situation was handled poorly and should never happen again.

As a person with mental issues it terrifies me that I could seek help and potentially be killed for it. This should never have happened and I pray that he recovers

Esto se llama racismo. Hay muchas formas de tratar con una persona que sufre de ataques de pannico. Es injusto lo que los polecias le hicieron a este joven. Esto no tiene nombre. Todo se paga especialmente allá con Dios.

A hospital is not a place for violence to occur -- certainly NEVER against patients, regardless of the circumstances. The fact that this happened is utterly unacceptable.

As a psychiatrist, I am absolutely astonished about the poor treatment choices and the use of security shooting s patient needing psychiatric care. There are multiple treatment options available, and I feel the hospital needs some serious investment in mental health resources, as well as a rewriting of protocols that absolutely prohibits guns near parients. The hospital methods are an outrage.
