501 Exams - Concerned Students

I feel the same way about 500. Too many changes in this program. It's not fair that we pay 1300 per credit and do not have consistency. I had to retake 500 for an 82.47 test average. I never saw my test answers, and it's not fair that we have to pay again when it's still a work I progress. I have only had one B in my entire academic career at Simmons and still feel like I failed. It's not fair to us. Please figure this out before I have to take 501 next semester! Do not use us as Guinea pigs! I cant afford it! Neither can my self esteem!

I take this course next semester and hope there is resolution to this matter before then. Many of us make familial, financial, and personal sacrifices to be in this program and our success should not be compromised over matters like this.

The test was written poorly and difficult to understand. I studied for at least 35 hours and still did the worst of any test so far. I am trying to determine how the material we are given in class helps with the testing. Really, the goal should be to prepare us for future practice and be the best practitioners we can be. I would hope that this test and/or future tests can be changed or somehow made better. I heard that there should have been corrections made but they were not done. I am not sure we would have been given this same luxury as a student that the faculty gave itself in not getting the corrections made for our test. We are paying quite a large amount of money to go to Simmons which is one the most expensive out there. I think that this program should much better for what we pay.

Considering all the variables please enact the requested changes.

This goes for ALL exams- especially 503- I felt that the exams in 503 were the most poorly written exams in my entire career as a Simmons FNP student.

This makes me sad that it has come to this but also proud to be part of such a strong, intelligent cohort.

I am starting 501 next term. Reading and hearing everything this cohort is going through is really discouraging. We pay more money to go through Simmons and I feel that we should receive that back in education. I am really hoping the kinks get worked out before I start.

I am sick that the Simmons Faculty has put its students through the stress that it has. An exam and its curve should not be designed to fail a significant number of students; especially after spending hours trying to find clinical sites, long commutes to clinical, and countless hours studying.

This has been a stressful 501 class and I hope this gets worked out.

I am not even close to taking this class yet. But it has me concerned. I think that all of their testing should reflect the testing style of the board exams we will have to take to gain lisensure. If they don’t get this fixed I may opt to find another university. There are so many other online programs Simmons is not the end all.

I love the education that I have received so far. However this first 501 exam was truly not indicative of the preparation and time that I personally put into knowing this material. I obtained a tutor to assist me for the next test...this is not what I wanted to do, since we have instructors that are suppose to be facilitating our learning and reviewing what we learned or assisting us on what we haven't fully grasped to be successful. The instructors that we have are very competent in their field and they need to give us some of their knowledge during class and not just have four case studies per class for ten chapters of learning. I hope this gets better for me and my colleagues. We all are truly trying our best to be successful and go on to represent our future profession and our institution.

I personally think it is also so unfair to ask students to study about 10 chapters for an exam only to have 39 questions. This is truly disheartening when you are giving a class your all and feel like you are being tricked to fail left and right.

I start this course in 2 weeks and am very scared watching this past cohort suffer.

I just took exam one it in 501, questions are if instructors haven’t taken test taking design they should use a test bank for questions! Plus the syllabus is incorrect...they corrected & then for test 2 corrected it again!

test did not reflect what we are learning as part of clinic rotation this term.

I’m concerned about all the questions put forth on these exams, they do not seem to be expert questions.

We try our best to do our best. It was disheartening to have taken that exam after feeling well prepared and the average be below passing. Just doesn’t seem fair.

The revised 501 exams are HORRIBLE and seriously need to be re-thought and re-written! They are, in no way, indicative of student effort and knowledge!

The course lead refused to tell the cohort the exam 1 average which is extremely unfair due to the amount of money we spend on this program. The exam averages in all 4 exams were low 80s which is terrible since the lowest passing score is an 83%. If the entire class and exams are reformatted with low passing grades the overall passing score should be lowered similar to pharm II. Our cohort wasted $10,000 on being guinea pigs for the new course format. Extremely frustrated!
