GCU promotes family and community, but won’t take care of thier students?

We need to be able to drop things off or stop by our beuikding for a second without rrcieving a ticket. Metered parking could even be in order in permitted areas by the living area buildings.

I would agree with this. It is hard enough, but to have little to no chance to succeed is not fair.

I took groceries up to my room last year (took me 2 trips) and the moment I started putting refrigerated items away, I got an email that I got a ticket. I ran downstairs to talk to the officer AS HE WAS GIVING IT TO ME, explained what was happening, he told me to use his name in the appeal and the appeal got denied. When I called public safety about it I told her I live in Roadrunner and park in the grove and that it would take multiple trips and she said “if it takes multiple trips, then it takes multiple trips”. We have really rude public safety officers.

I was told that we get 15 minutes to park our cars on campus to run thing to our rooms. However now they ticket us right away.

Im tired of the 100$ tickets just for taking my groceries up stairs !!!!

I agree it's hard on students to walk all that way with packages of water or tons of groceries.

I totally agree. It would make things sooo much easier for everyone. I havent been on campus in a little while so im not sure of what space they have open

I have to fight each year so my niece can park in a SAFE environment. The faculty is allowed close proximity parking - shuttle the staff and allow students who come and go for work groceries etc park close to where they LIVE!! Ridiculous!!!

Thank you for the input; I think that as long as there is some type of small adjacent parking area that would be helpful. There is space near North Rim and across from Papago that could work.

Just got a $100 ticket for this same thing and I was barely there for like 5 minutes. SO DUMB!!

Let me just play devils advocate for just a moment, because someone ultimately will look at this from a safety standpoint. As a former student of GCU I am in total support of implementing so called "5 minute parking spots" or zones, rather, for ease of access for students and their families, because it sure is a pain at times to transfer things in and out of the dorms (groceries, furniture, etc.). Regarding #1, it is true that there are currently no 5 minute loading zones for students to utilize (for a reason), due to the exterior of the building being labeled as a fire lane. Firstly, this can not be compromised due to IFC 503.1.1 "Approved fire apparatus access roads shall be provided for every facility, building or portion of a building ... and shall extend to within 150 feet of all portions of the facility and all portions of the exterior walls of the first story of the building as measured by an approved route around the exterior of the building or facility. Another issue with this is egress, or leaving safely. If we have students and their vehicles blocking said lanes, and there were to be an emergency and emergency vehicles were required to make entrance, or students needed to exit safely, their safety may be compromised. Another reason why they have the dorms and apartments surrounded by fire lanes would fall under: Section 2. Requirements/Standards: When required by the Fire code official, emergency vehicle lanes shall be provided around facilities which by their size, location, design, or contents warrant access which exceeds that normally provided by the proximity of City streets. There are no city streets on campus thus warranting the need for said fire lanes and their strict requirements, I would assume, because there is not a significant amount of room for these vehicles to operate in allocated space, as there would be on a normal city street.
As far as fire code states, there are minimal instances where an individual may stop in a posted fire lane:
