We are asking the city to study the impact of a bike lane on 4th avenue in Brooklyn. The current setup has gone from three to two lanes of traffic. The city and DOT have designated this a "BIKE ROUTE" and have added in tiny signs along 4th avenue. All we ask for is a study to see if a marked bicycle lane is feasible. The space is there due to the lane reduction and traffic would not be negatively impacted.

i have been talking to neighbors all week and its clear everyone is tired of the confusion on 4th ave. its wild that the city calls it a bike route but refuses to actually look at how to make it safe for anyone. im sending our points over to the dot office today so they know we are paying attention.

this is gaining way more traction than i ever thought possible. its obvious people really care about finally getting a real look at this street layout.

4th Avenue needs an intelligent and community-friendly evaluation and re-construction for the traffic it handles as well as a bike lane for safety. Since double parking is illegal, it does not need a "double parking" configuration. Also widening the divider is a waste of time and money and is unnecessary -- this is Brooklyn, not Park Ave.

Why won't the City study this? When they switched to 2 lanes we asked if they had counted the bikes using 4th. They said "no, we don't want to encourage bikers we want them on 5th". Then I found out that they had gotten Federal bike money to do the 4th ave changes that had nothing to do with bikes. So suddenly in the dark of the night DOT made 4th Ave a bike route on their maps - but they didn't tell anyone...only when we pushed harder did they then put up signs. But this is too dangerous for bikes - and there is room to make it safe with a dedicated lane....why won't they just look at the possibility?

I am a biker myself and feel 4th avenue is way too dangerous for a bike lane unless you like putting your life on the line for a ride on a bicycle.

Cycling is an alternative form of transportation which is widely used in Sunset park. Please consider the valuable information this study may yield.

Cars whip up and down 4th Avenue as an alternative to driving on the Gowanus Expressway. I cannot imagine this is a safe place for a bike lane and this should absolutely be studied. Thank you.

Bike lanes have made driving in NYC area a nightmare. And most aren't even used. NY is not Amsterdam and never will be.

With all that is going on on fourth avenue this doesn't seem safe.

Fourth avenue is on the DOT list of the 10 most dangerous avenues in NYC.
