Now they charge a monthly fee in addition to an anual fee for the transponder " lease" . So now we are charged twice for the same thing.

Take back the 407

My last trip cost $38 for a 100km trip. That is $38/hr! This is total highway robbery and must be legislated to stop. I payed $3 for a 100km trip from Buffalo- Rochester Time for the government to re-look at the asinine lease contract that was signed and to fix their mistakes. At minimum, the government should cease immediately to be the toll collector for overdue accounts. No other business enjoys this privilege. The reasoning would be that since the ETR jacked up fees so much above inflation, they have more than enough in revenue to pay for their own bill collection. I would like to see the rates capped to something like the minimum wage levels. If current minimum wage is 11.40, then a 100km trip shouldn't cost more than $11.40. I would also like to see all the trip surcharges removed. There were never any when the ETR was first leased. All fees should be included in the per km rate to prevent this additional revenue generation. Furthermore, I am sick and tired of governments selling income producing assets to cook the books( to make it look like income and hence offset their deficits) in hopes of getting elected. In the process they give the chosen few (ETR, Beer store etc) monopolies to take advantage of the citizens of Ontario. Time to take them back and make sure that all Ontario citizens benefit.

I don't mind having a pay road, however the charges have recently doubled with the time of use structure which is ridiculous. (And which has significantly reduced my use of the 407). The funds should also be kept in Ontario!

Camera fees, account fee, toll fees, Km fees. They can make up any fee they want and get away with it. Let's real this in and fix 401 congestion and save lives. 401 is the most dangerous, party due to congestion walls.

I support any petition that will help to lower the ridiculous costs we pay for this roadway.

The 407 is ridiculously expensive. 100 more so than the New York state thruway. Another example of government robbery.

It is an absolute travesty to know that our hard earned tax dollars were used to build this highway, then our government sells it to a forgein company and now that same company takes advantage of those who use it. Appalling.

The cost of my commute has doubled over the past 7 years alone. That is during a time of record low inflation. It is completely unfair price gouging. If the price of food doubled in 7 years there would be riots in the streets. I fully support any and all efforts to take the 407 back and roll back the price increases to a reasonable rate. I have no problem paying for the convenience of going on the road, I just don't like being blatantly ripped off and taken advantage of. The Harris government that handed it over to a private firm without restricting price gouging in the deal should be ashamed of itself.
