There is a controversial book being read to our 3rd graders, it is titled: "The Librarian of Basra". This book IS part of the Engage NY 3rd grade curriculum. Our goal is to have this book removed from the curriculum, but at the very least have parents made aware that this book is being read to their children, giving the chance to review it and making their voice heard. We ask that you sign this petition if y ou agree that this book should be removed from the 3rd grade curriculum reading.

The emails I am receiving from parents confirm that we are not alone in this concern. I am currently compiling these experiences to present to the school board.

The momentum is undeniable. This shows how many parents want a say in what our kids read.

Not appropriate for Carthage Central School. Shame on the school since majority of the students are military. Very insensitive.

My son had a hard time wrapping his little head around this book. We talked about it at dinner. The world we live in is already hard enough for an 8 year old to get a grasp on then we add this. Hos father who served the army for 22 years couldn't believe it.

I don’t mind other points of views. I actually think they’re great to learn from but I think this isn’t a book for my third grader.

This isn't something I would want read to my kids at school. Parents should be the ones to read/discuss this kind of thing with their kids, not teachers. Please remove it from curriculum!

As much as I believe that children should be taught new concepts while they are in school this book is NOT something that I believe 3rd graders (a great amount having parents who are employed by the U.S Military ) should be being read. At the very least warn the parents that this book (which has sparked NATIONAL CONTROVERSY) was going to be read aloud in class.

A book that Parents should be made aware of so that they can help explain to their children the "how's" & "whys" of what has and is is taking place. Many of us are active duty and this is real life for our children.... If this is going to be required reading, let parents know so we can prepare our children & explain more facts to them than just what this book depicts.

Paints US military in a bad light, this may be a true story but this is NOT appropriate for young children. This is brainwashing liberal propaganda remove it from the school curriculum
