I use that intersection twice a day. The stop light has made an enormous difference. I always feel pressured to cross France because traffic is building up behind me. That pressure skews judgement and increases risk of accidents!!! The traffic on France is usually moving at high speed.

I am a blind individual who frequently navigates this specific part of France Ave S, at least twice a day multiple days per week. To put it plainly, it is a frightening and stressful crossing I would avoid at all costs. The day I found the new stoplight in place was easily the best day of that entire month for me. The amount of near misses I have experienced (or witnessed other cars/pedestrians experience) are too many to count.
Additionally, the 39th and France intersection is an important bus stop for many of the bus 6 routes (last stop on France before it turns towards the lake). Traffic control is sorely needed for riders to cross safely to/from the bus.
With the previous installation of a marked crosswalk at France & 42nd (painted lines, median, pedestrian caution signs), as well as the crosswalk at France & 38th with pedestrian-controlled flashing lights as well as a median, it seems like there is ample precedent demonstrating the prioritization and necessity of safety measures along this busy road. I hope this record of importance on safety will continue with installation of a permanent stoplight on France and 39th.

My husband and I experienced a very close call at this intersection when, as pedestrians, we watched a car heading west on 39th blow through the intersection at France not even thinking of stopping, like totally unaware of where he was. He was within a micro-second of smashing into a car going south on France which had the total right-away. We could have been mowed down by one of the cars or faced flying debris from a giant crash.

I've only lived here a short while, but the difference this light has made is dramatic. Please keep it, it's so much easier to cross France with this light than without.

Having lived with the temporary stoplight at this corner for the duration of the summer, I endorse making this permanent. We have observed less speeding, less horn honking, and have witnessed no accidents on this corner the entire time the stoplight has been in place. In the past, we have had cars end up in our yard. an overturned vehicle on the sidewalk, and an overall level of more dangerous speed. Passersby, with whom I have engaged, express approval for the traffic signals because they know they can cross France Ave. safely.
