I’ve had over $1000 in prescription glasses stolen from my van. Lot track of how much money. Have a neighbour that’s been beaten, hospitalized and beaten. Another neighbour that’s forever getting his security alarms going off. These are just a small sample of examples. We don’t want more people scouting our homes. If it’s such a good thing, put it in the John Belone building. It’s close to the Mission Services. It’s close to the Salvation Army building. And yes, John and Paul at Burrell Auto didn’t like the threat, but they don’t live there. We live in the immediate neighbourhood. What parent wants to drop their child off at a day care at High and Baseline not knowing who are why the guys are standing at that corner. The London Free Press has had field day of delight reporting the brothel on Commissioners. It was within walking distance of the shootout sight. We didn’t ask or want that either. Don’t remember that story : that luxury house is across the drug dealing biker house that burned down last week. Not saying there is an easy solution to this. Am saying that my neighborhood is not a big part of the problem. Keep the solution close to the problem. That would be back to John Belone’s. Surely the major building holder in down town has something acceptable. If you can afford to buy this house and property, buy the little parking lot beside Missions Services. Build there. Build it big enough close enough a walk way link can join the two buildings. Mission Services is already there so it’s acceptable. Gets around the rules. Still room for a big parking lot. Win win win. Am I speaking as one who does drugs. No. Am I speaking as one who has friends that use these sights. Yes. But who the friend is using and not using, I don’t want the user close to my house. I volunteer at Parkwood hospital. No one wants the people walking and talking to themselves in their neighborhood. But at least at Parkwood there is immediate

Crime around our neighbourhood has risen over the years that I've lived here and building this home will only cause crime rates to go up. I nor anyone I know in this neighborhood wants this to happen. We need to feel safe in our homes.

The safety of this neighborhood is top priority. We must have a safe environment for our children to grow up in.

This neighbourhood is already experiencing more thefts and such issues that it did not in the past. We would like to prevent even more decline to the safety of this area.

As a resident with a small child in the area. I do not feel it is a appropriate location being primarily residential and with several other locations closer to downtown as options which do not pose a safety risk to residents but still close enough to meet the needs of the proposed project.

This location is not appropriate. Should be located toward central downtown area with policing and proper medical facilities close by. This city council has no critical thinking abilities in its decision making.

If I see any drug addicts anywhere near my home and children you may as well make the hospital the safe zone because I am going to bust their heads up fiercely. Ask the few I've met already if I'm joking.

Definitely no! Not suitable in a family area

This is not an appropriate area. Use an industrial mall.

I strongly vote against this as the proposed site. Any residential neighbourhood should not be even considered for something like this.

No thank you. My son was approached by a meth head in Thames Park in the summer. Thank god we were close by. It was very upsetting and scary for all of us but especially a 9 year old kid. I agree that a strung out person is safer in a controlled space but a residential area with lots of kids around just seems like a recipe for disaster. Feeling apprehensive to walk in the park alone is one thing, but no one should feel scared to walk down their own damn street.

Definitely not the appropriate site. Also, a house just went up for sale on Ridout - same number of bedrooms, in way better shape, and half the price. Why doesn’t the city buy that and save 500k taxpayer money...

I can't believe this is coming from the same city council that made a London family take down a front yard hockey rink citing a danger to the public a place where children were having fun and being outside away from their cell phones yet it's acceptable to have drug and alcohol addicts congregating in a quiet residential neighbourhood. This is unacceptable and we as a community need to do more than just sign this petition because the next detox home may be in your neighborhood.

I live in Old South but not very close to this residence. I agree we need these types of services in London but I didn’t feel qualified to comment or judge until I saw the site for myself. I have to say after seeing it, I completely agree with it not being an appropriate location. It’s a wide open space at the end of a quiet dead end street. Yes it’s close to Vic, but it’s also extremely close to a daycare (London Bridge on Wellington) and several schools which have children who walk alone to and from school. I would encourage those who say they’re “for” this site to be used this way, to take a drive over there and see it for yourself. Ask yourself if you’d feel safe living next door or having your kids walk to school alone with that type of shelter there. I wouldn’t.

Not safe for a residential area. I vote against this as a local resident

While I agree that there is a need for places likes this in our city more research needs to be done in regards to the potential neighbourhood prior to establishing these sites. This location is close to a public school and a potential seniors residence. Recovering homeless drug addicts will be sent back out into our community with few options other than to pan handle the residents or worse steal or break in to homes to aid in their next fix.

I can sympathize with the people that need places like this, but not in a residential neighborhood. Sure the Police /Other agencies will bring these people here to get the help they need but what happens after that. Will these people come back and pick them up or will they just open the doors and let then wander off on their own. Now you have a drug addict wandering around after coming down from a high looking for their next fix. You let them loose in a low traffic/pedestrian area and all you are doing is letting them go window shopping through peoples yards/houses/cars trying to find items they can pawn/sell to get cash for their next high. No thank you. You won't see one of these places going in close to a city Councillors/Mayor's home. I vote a big Hell no.

A quiet and historically safe residential area with families and many young children is no place for such a shelter.
