I am a biker and I agree this is a terrible idea. Why not utilize a much less traveled / less busy street? Why would they target the most congested thruway in Astoria??

Placing the bike lines on one of the busiest streets in Astoria is ridiculous. If this happens , I bet that Steinway will be next!

I am a biker and love the idea of more bike lanes in the city. Having said that, 31st St has a very unique setup due to the support pillars and the light reflecting through the elevated subway deck. Those factors create a major hazard for any bikers, as well as any cars trying to turn - the driver will simply not see the bicycle rider. This idea is sheer madness - it cannot happen.

Businesses on 31st St. depend on the parking in front of their businesses to sustain their businesses. Eliminating parking spots to install a bike lane will put many people out of business. It is a shame that the bike lanes and parking spots cannot coexist, due to the fact that there are columns supporting the N and W train lines above, but this is a rare example where the bike lanes and parking spots cannot coexist on the same street.

Where are the workers who need parking everyday suppose to park. All those wonderful thriving businesses will suffer horribly if this is passed. Please stop putting road blocks up for these hard working people. .

Bike lanes would be a hazard to all of the businesses, people, bicyclists, motorists and pedestrians who use the streets and sidewalks all around 31st Street. 31st St. is already heavily congested with all types of transportation. We would not be able to conduct our business properly and our residents would suffer greatly. A bike lane on this street would be extremely dangerous! If you truly want to save innocent lives,
PLEASE DO NOT PLACE THESE BIKE LANES ON 31st ST.!!!!!!!!

This is a very busy 2 way street with, business on both sides, of the street. Bike lanes on both side would really, hurt small business. We need our trucks to get in and out.

parking in Astoria is already hard enough. Please keep 31st street which is one of the most crowded streets in this neighborhood the way it is.

Moving the parking space so close to the subway supports immediately next to the driving lane is deathly dangerous for all drivers. And the positions of the subway supports will create dead zones impossible to park and thus further decrease the parking space available. Our constant and necessary use of the driveways for trailer trucks for loading and unloading will make the bike lane useless and dangerous to all. This is an inconsiderate plan that I wholeheartedly oppose.
