To Texas State Senator Dan Patrick, Vice Chair of the Texas Senate Education Committee, we, the undersigned employees of Spring Branch ISD, parents of Spring Branch ISD schoolchildren, and community supporters of our public schools, hereby petition and request that you vote “No” on any and all legislation, which will eliminate class-size limits for grades K-4. We urge you to support measures that will reduce class-size limits in all grades.

Compelling evidence demonstrates that reducing class size, particularly for younger children, has a positive effect on student achievement overall, and has a significant impact on the education of disadvantaged children. Small class size provides more teacher-student interaction, creates fewer discipline problems, and gives students the ability to be more successful. We urge you to take no action to water-down the current law, which places a cap of 22 students to one teacher in a K-4 classroom. We ask that you support our teachers, our public schools, and more importantly, the futures of our schoolchildren.

I have spent this week drafting formal position papers to present to the Senate Education Committee members. We are currently coordinating with district stakeholders to ensure our specific research on class size impacts reaches the correct legislative offices.

My son is in 2nd grade and his teacher already has her hands full. Adding more kids is just gonna make it impossible for them to learn anything.

Big classes are a recipe for disaster. Let the teachers actually teach.

Keep the classes small. Teachers are already stressed out enough as it is. Dont take this away from the kids.

22 is already too many honestly. how is one person supposed to teach a room full of kids with different needs? bad move.
