Hello Hamlin Tennis People!
As a newly appointed board member, I wanted you to know that we are going through all of the projects the community would like to complete in 2020. There is currently not much money set aside for the ongoing repair of the tennis courts. With your help I would like to make the repair and consistent upkeep of our tennis facilities a big priority!
The tennis courts are currently the ONLY AMENITY that requires the users to maintain it for daily use. Landscapers blow it off once a week. The nets are in bad shape, there are slippery mold areas in the corners. Lights are a constant challenge. Here's what I'm going to propose to the board as part of a repair and maintenance plan:
- New nets on all the courts that need them
- A pressure washing schedule to keep the slick spots away (starting quarterly in the beginning)
- Landscapers increasing their rotation to blow off courts
- Trimming back trees that overhang the fence as much as possible
- Retrofitting the lights so they all will be the modern LED bulbs (a few are done)
- Repairing / landscaping the gates onto Courts 1 & 2 with the exposed sprinkler lines and big concrete step
- Brooms, squeegees, and a blower available for players
After we get these items taken care off, maybe we ask for bleachers, patio, benches.
If you agree that some of our yearly dues should go to tennis @ Hamlin, please add your name to this sign up. If you value tennis in Hamlin as much as I do, please help me to get as many residents as we can to sign up. If your spouse plays have them sign too. Even if they don't play but like the fact that tennis gets you out of the house for a few hours, have them add their name. Even if you don't play but you see value in maintaining a popular amenity then add your name here.
Our working session is Thursday January 23rd. I would love to present my proposal with a list of residents who agree.

I started this because I wanted to see the courts usable again but the amount of people who have reached out with their own stories is truly overwhelming. I am currently sorting through all your suggestions to present to the board and honestly this progress belongs entirely to you.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many neighbors stepped up to back this cause. This momentum belongs entirely to you because I never imagined we would gain this much traction on our court repairs.

Ongoing maintenance is needed to include addressing repetitive issues with the lights. It was embarrassing and frustrating to be hosting a USTA match with lights that would not come on and/or work as well as court conditions at times. This is a significant reason our 3.5 ladies night team moved from Hamlin to MPR last fall after starting the team in Hamlin and playing from our home courts for 7 years. Our tennis courts are an important amenity to our neighborhood and deserve proper funding.
My Family uses the courts on ave 10 hours a week. I have 2 child who have used them over the years to receive college scholarships and play div 1 tennis and my third who still uses the courts is going next year to florida st on a full scholarship as well. Add to this my wife and I play almost weekly. WHen we move here in 2012 this is what sold us on this neighborhood
Tennis is a sport for all generations that is played in Hamlin 365 days in a year!! Would be great to have a maintenance person take care of the courts. My wife and teammates are out there hours before a match drying the courts with their own towels.
The tennis courts in Hamlin are a attractive feature of our neighborhood. Maintenance and upkeep now will prevent large expenses in the future. Our family has three generations living in Hamlin and all three use the tennis courts. They are a great amenity and deserve proper consideration in the annual budget. Thank you!
Tennis is an important part of the community and helps maintain the value of the subdivision.

I support this effort. Rob is spot on with all of these items that need to be addressed. There also seem to be a lot of folks playing on the courts regularly (lessons and or leagues) that are not Hamlin residents. Is there or will there be a plan in place to obtain some of the required funds needed from these folks? FWIW...The town of MP charges $50 per player per season (1/2 year) to play in leagues on their courts. I have no idea whether the teaching pros utilizing our courts pay any type of court use fee.
