[We are disappointed by the cowardly response of the school council. If you disagree with the objections to CY Leung expressed in our petition, please state your reasons. If you agree with the petition but feel bound by protocol to refrain from rescinding the invitation, state your regrets for making a bad decision last year. We can understand. To hide behind so called traditional practices and protocol shows an egregious lack of principles.]

please safeguard the integrity of the values the school promotes by influencing our students with the right role model. Wasn't the start of Christianity and the heritage of the school all about fighting against unjust authorities and the pursuit of righteousness? CY Leung contradicts this belief in all aspects.

I echo with others CY's public and private life is nothing any christian school should aspire to. So despite the tradition of inviting some former Chief Executives to a few past ceremonies, the school council should understand traditions are supposed to serve humanity and not the other way around. To ignore such will not just raise public doubts about one of HK's top schools' ethical intelligence, but will create bondage and defeat the very purpose of christian education: enlightenment.

Our school spirit is "Faith, hope and love". Mr. 689 is the best counter-example to these three virtues. Inviting him to the 100th year commencement will be an insult to the graduates, the alumnus and the founders of our school.

I would like to know why the Chief Executive was invited, instead of an alumnus who could truly represent St. Paul's values. If the decision was made merely because he was a political leader, no matter how undeserving he was and disregard of the fact that he was anything against our core values, then I must say I feel ashamed that our good name is to be tarnished in the way.

Shouldn't the school invite an accomplished SPCC graduate as Guest of Honor to exemplify to students on what previous students have accomplished, so that current students can strive to match predecessors? Why invite someone who graduated somewhere else? Does it mean a King's College graduate is better than SPCC graduates?

Why didn't the college council consider Prof Nelson W S Chow or Senator Vivienne Poy?
My appreciation to Miss YEUNG Ho-yan and her partners for informing us about this incident, as well as initiating the petition. Correct me if I am wrong - the invitation (of Mr. CY Leung as the Guest of Honour in the SPCC's centenary celebration) has already been sent out - a fait accompli.
Three years ago, due to the nature of my work I would most probably have refrained from commenting. However, this time it's different - I am now retired... and above all this very issue strikes at my alma mater and all the values and spirit it advocates - I must speak. All of SPCC's staff, students and alumni did cherish the school's values and spirit - hope, faith, love, integrity, conscience... and I believe we still do and hope we still will. Perception is reality - we perceive other people based on their "observable behaviours". From what was observed over the past few years, I am not at all convinced that Mr. Leung shares any of the SPCC's values or spirit. His "supreme status" should NOT have been the overriding criteria for his being selected as GoH. This invitation is thus a serious BLUNDER.
Miss Yeung expressed a serious doubt on Mr. Leung's integrity and the potential risk of any of his behaviours being condoned (or perceived to be condoned ) as a role model for others. These concerns are fully legitimate, and I'm saying so as a father as well as from the perspective of a leader in my former profession with many subordinates. Integrity (and the implications of the lack of it) is a core value that cannot be over-emphasised.
Possible eventuality: what about if SPCC's management insists on going ahead with the invitation and/or Mr. Leung ignores advices and turns up as GoH at the function? Well, we, as staff, students, alumni, etc always have the choice whether or not to join the function, or how to turn up if we choose to join. Any possible sacrifice? Yes, maybe . But if St. Paul died for his faith (for which of course he was later made a saint and a ma
