FOR THE GOOD OF OUR CHILDREN please sign this petition to oppose the reconfiguration of the North Bend School District. The current proposal would send grades 3 - 5 to North Bay School in Hauser, and K - 2 to Hillcrest in North Bend. The proposal will also fracture Lighthouse Charter School. This was the only option presented by superintendent, BJ Hollensteiner, for the accommodation of all day kindergarten and improved teacher collaboration. *It is estimated that more than 400 students will be disrupted with this proposal. *Extensive remodeling must take place at North Bay/Lighthouse to accomodate the influx of students. *Bus trips to and from school will be an hour or longer, totaling more than 10 hours per week, for children living on either side of the bridge. Elementary age children may be grouped with high school aged students on the bus increasing the opportunity for exposure to inappropriate language and bullying. *Unrealistic transportation and building costs associated with the reconfiguration proposed. *Lack of a district emergency response plan (e.g. tsunami, earthquake, and fire). *Inadequate spaces to provide a safe and optimal learning environment for our children. *Lack of community support and involvement in the proposal process. *Potential decrease in NBSD enrollment as children transfer districts, home school, or choose private school alternatives ($6,500 lost to the NBSD for every child that leaves). *Potential reduction in parent involvement in school activities. Hillcrest, Lighthouse, and North Bay let us unite as one collective voice to OPPOSE the reconfiguration of our school district.
