This act is the antithesis of trying to build an inclusive and loving community. I fear that this will only result in bitter feelings as well as a great divide among students and Residence Life.

this is not the way that SPU should be handling situations. Just like the university shouldn't kick suicidal and depressed people off campus! The absolute worst way to deal with these problems.

How can anyone find a place to live in 3 days. Choose a different punishment. This is a cruel and malicious punishment that will greatly affect their academic performance and experience here at SPU. SPU preaches about cultivating a community, yet you're ready to dump your students on the street.

These students were only acting with a community-building spirit for their floor. Help them understand the mistakes they made, yes. But kicking these students to the curb is completely unjust.

One of the most influential communities that has impacted my life is being dismantled by the residence life whose purpose is to uphold and encourage said communities. It is very sad to see that and I am deeply saddened that many people will miss that experience. I wouldn't be close the person I am today without fifth west and think residence life is making an incredibly large mistake and should remember to put their students first. Yes mistakes will be made but that does not mean the future generations of 5th, specifically the freshman, should be punished for that matter.
Initiation was honestly the most memorable experience on my floor and made it feel like I truly was part of a family and not simply sharing a living space.

In ashton, students are guilty until proven innocent, i was accused of alcohol in the dorms and was put on probation and forced to take a class because of a rumor. this needs to change...

This punishment does not fit the crime. It is very unfair to evict them in the middle of the quarter with just a few days to find elsewhere to live.

I agree with Nolan - our goal with this position is not to pass any value judgment upon residence life, as that is not our place. Residence life is not a faceless institution, but a group of people who work hard to keep students' best interests at heart. We simply believe they made a mistake in the punishment being given. Our position is simply to ask for reconsidering the punishment dealt to the valuable members of SPU community who live on 5th West.

I firmly believe in justice when justice is warranted. This disciplinary action against 5W is not warranted nor does it coincide with the grace-filled community that SPU has proven itself to be. This decision deeply uproots 5W brothers and effects members of the Ashton community and the entire student body.

that is an unfair punishment for what was done. Reslife is giving different disciplin for things that were dealt with lightly for others

As easy as it is to get fired up about the situation at hand, our purpose with this petition will be best fulfilled if we remain respectful when approaching res life. They will be more apt to listen to our voices and take what we have to say seriously. We'd really appreciate it if you could take down this comment from the petition page.

The position ResLife is putting these students in is not compatible with the Christian message permeating our school. At such a critical time in their academic career this is unfair to them given the nature of their indiscretions.
They don't deserve this.
