Residence Life: Reverse Your Decision to Evict 5th West Ashton

Recently, 12 students have been threatened with expulsion from on-campus housing for traditions constituting hazing. The intent of this position is not to take a stance on the action itself, but rather the cruel punishment that has been inflicted on these students.
On October 27th, 11 residents of Fifth West Ashton and their Residence Advisor were told that they had 72 hours to move out of their current housing and find a place to live off-campus. They were given 48 hours to appeal this decision, a process which is currently in progress at the time of this petition. Residence Life determined that certain aspects of their tradition constituted hazing, and because of this breach of Lifestyle Expectations they were required to leave.
Regardless of whether these actions could be seen as hazing, those signing this petition believe that creating forced homelessness for these students is an unfair punishment that should be re-evaluated. We believe it is inconsistent with SPU's mission to create restorative justice and foster community.
We are calling for Residence Life to hear the voice of the students and reevaluate their decision.
