The soldiers who committed that terrible massacre should have never been rewarded with any medal - nor in any other way! It needs to be rescinded, and the families of those who have been killed or injured should be the ones receiving apology and compensation. The dead can not be brought back to life, nothing can ever compensate the murder of innocent people. But rewarding those who have commited this horrible crime is like spitting in the face of the victims and their families...

this was a murderous act inflicted on a group of men women and worse of all little children and babies no one should sleep the sleep of the innocent until this grave injustice is punished you cannot bring back the dead but you can let the relatives know you don't condone this heinous action

This remains a black mark against the army and this country. Although it is only one example of the horrors inflicted on the indigenous people, it is a glaring one and should be accounted for.

I am proud to be American but that doesn't mean I agree with things that were done in the past. During WWII this would have been called a genocide and I think that is what this horrible act was. Yes I do mean the comparison that the members of 7th Calvary of the United States Army of 7th Calvary of the United States Army and the Nazi's are very similar. Today children learn of what the Jews went through: marched, murdered, and degraded. And the Native Americans that day were treated the same way. Native Americans were forced and punished and murdered. And as Americans we should not let this stand. If I could sign this petition a thousand times I would. WE should not condone what took place during those days instead we should tear them from their medals and remember them not as heroes but of evil.

I can understand medals being given for acts of heroism when it is war, but not for shooting down unarmed men,women, and children, what is more sickening is that people were rewarded for this horrific crime with medals and praise for the deaths of our ancestors, I will never support the military and political favoring of such an act.

The massacre of unarmed elders, women and children should have earned those responsible lengthy prison sentences or executions, NOT awards. Furthermore, the plaque which commorates their horrific deeds is a discrace. Very shameful.

There is no possible way that Wounded Knee can be viewed as anything other than the slaughter of unarmed, innocent people. The medals given those soldiers of the Seventh Calvery should be revoked and the Battle Pennant on the flag of the United States be removed and destroyed as the Lakota People are asking. Those soliders and Colonel Forsythe of the Seventh Calvery should be forever branded as war ciminals. They are nothing less than that.
