Native Americans are our National Treasure. What European invaders did is unconscionable in the name of "Manifest Destiny". Who knows what their destiny may have been had we not been so destructive? In so many ways we are a Nation of Shame. We deserve no medals for what our forefathers perpetrated.
As an Army retiree I think the medals were NOT deserved and should be taken back.

The Massacre at Wounded Knee cannot be undone; however, at the least, the Federal government should honor the request of this petition in acknowledgement that atrocities were committed at Wounded Knee and that the 7th Calvary should not be awarded accolades for this massacre.

I believe that a medal of honor should be given upon actions of courage, justice, fairness, and grounds of what America claims to be about. I believe the medal given to the 7th calvary was given by an act of ignorance and close-mindedness and should not be honored the 7th calvary acted on cowardness, discrimination, injustice,unfairness and to continue to honor such a massacre is going against such things this country claims to be....
