It is more than likely that most all of the 7th Cavalry soldiers killed during the massacre were slain by indiscriminate cannon and rifle from the hill overlooking the Sioux camp. Disgusting that ANY meritorius awards were given to the mrrders.

A massacre is something to be ashamed of, not awarded our highest military honor. It leaves a stain on our military and dishonors the soldiers who won the medal in other engagements where they actually earned it. An apology is the least we can do even though it is long overdo.
