Removal of 10+ year ban on Used Vehicles in The commonwealth of The Bahamas

i think this is a silly ban, we are now force to spend more money on newer model cars. I am looking into buying a old VW and with this ban I can not bring it in.

This isn't the first time they've tried this. Conversely, I think it's ridiculous in a country with no reliable public transportation OR auto industry to have such high duties on vehicles. It's like they know people need cars so they hike the duty up. If you ban imports older than 10 years, you have to lower duties on new vehicles as well.

I guess the local dealershits cannot deal with the competition. If this is true it is very sad and ridiculous.

This ban isn't making sense, are they going to stop licensing and inspecting old vehicles that are already on the road?

10 year limit is NO guarantee of reliable or safe transportation. What is needed is to ensure no importation of salvage vehicles and such that may be a danger to the general public if allowed on the road.

I am a working mother of 2 whoes main focus is me and my kids education I'm trying to finish college while my daughters go to private school so they can get the best education as well. My car died a few months ago and I'm now saving to buy a car. The car I'm looking at on a car lot cost $10,000 i cant afford to spend that much on a car but if I order it from away I'll be saving almost $4,000 and that's including with customs and insurance. You need to think bout the lower middle class who would like to drive a nice reliable car for a cheap price

I'm definitely against this because I own a older car and as a mechanic I work on many of them to feed my family. And tell me what happens to the importation of real classics that hold more value than these toy cars they want everyone to drive??!!

I think that the condition of the car is of importance not the age. I also enjoy older cars and I'm sure my 98 daily driver or my 69 Sunday driver is in better condition than any 5 year old vehicle that hasn't been maintained.

It's bad enough that the average Bahamian can no longer afford to purchase real estate, now they are making it harder to get a car.
