UAHA has voted to hold 10 and 12 U hockey tryouts in the middle of summer. The date is the first weekend of August once again and maybe during the week. For many reason this hurts our kids from getting a break from hockey if they choose too. This adds stress to kids and families. It also takes away from many family trips and summer plans for these families. Kids need a break from the ice if they want it. It is the wrong direction and it goes against the grain of USA hockey's goal. USA hockey wants kids to step away from the ice. This is a petition to move tryouts to May or June so the kids can relax and enjoy summer. UAHA is supposed to represent the people and this vote does not represent what the hockey community or USA hockey wants. Please cast your vote and share with your friends, kids, and families across the hockey community of all ages.

Families across our community are telling me that these August tryouts are ruining their summer breaks and forcing kids to miss out on rest. I am currently drafting a formal letter to the UAHA board to demand a move to May or June. Call your local league representative today and tell them that our children deserve a real off-season.

The momentum behind this push is real and the UAHA board cannot ignore it much longer. Post this link on your Facebook page and text three friends who have players affected by these summer tryouts. We need to keep this pressure high until they schedule a meeting to address our concerns.

I don’t understand why Utah hockey can’t and albeit refuses to function and run like the rest of the United States. There is a reason so many of our hockey players are looking for opportunities outside of the state; instead of being different for the wrong reasons maybe it’s time to realize our state and the governing hockey decision makers are the ones doing it wrong.
Changing the date would be helpful for our son to get to go to church boys camp as it falls that same week/weekend in august. We’d love to see it changed.
Kids have enough stresses these days. Let them tryout at the beginning of summer so they can unwind and enjoy some summer fun. They are young kids. Sounds like it works in other states. Give it a try.
I like the idea of the kids being able to step away from the ice if they choose during the summer months, which I believe was the original intent of moving the tryouts from May to august. In reality moving the tryouts to august has had the exact opposite result. Kids need to skate all summer to be prepared for the august dates and if they choose to not skate all summer they could be left behind
Pushing tryouts late into summer is not the wishes of the parents and coaches at these age groups. Speaking as both. Is this to benefit private instructors that gain clients that may otherwise may take the summer off if they had a position in place? No other explanation seems to make sense. Please join so many other states that have many more years of track record with this approach. Please let hockey take a break for the summer by settling rosters early, when players are at their prime, and allow it to shut down.

Our families live back east. The only time we can travel there is August. Every year we have had to make adjustments and shorten our travel plans due to the tryout dates and when school begins. We end up missing some of our family members as they visit the last week of July and first week of Aug. Hold tryouts near the end if the school year or maybe first week if June. Get it over with and let kids and families enjoy their off-season together away from hockey.
