As a mom, I can’t imagine the feeling of having a vulnerable, medically complex child that goes missing. As adults, it is our job to protect ALL children. We NEED something. For all kids. For Parker.

I do think there needs to be an early alert system for vulnerable citizens in the City of Calgary.

We need to be able to know, get the word out and find them as a community. Every second counts.

The vulnerable should not even know they are vulnerable because their safety should be that much more important to all!

So many vulnerable, disabled and neurodivergent children go missing every year, and these disappearances are just as dangerous for these children as it is for those cases that do meet the criteria for an Amber Alert. Since funding seems to get cut for these families to have the proper supports in place to adequately care for these amazing kids, the LEAST we can do is come together to create a proper alert system so the public can be made aware. Every second counts when it comes to our children.

Who knows if Parker would have been found if something like this was put in place immediately instead of over 48 hours later. The first 48 hours of a missing person are the most crucial and if we had this system in place it would allow for the city to be notified as soon as possible as many don’t use social media nor watch the news! This could make a vital difference and stop something as tragic as what’s happening now from ever happening again! Amber alert should not be the only alert for kids!

This should have been a thing a long time ago. Sad it always takes tragedy before the right measures are in place. 💙

Children with disabilities are at risk as they may not be aware of their surroundings and are unable to communicate. The quicker the public are notified the sooner they can be located.

As a father of 4 autistic children, if one of them were to wonder this could help save their lives and many more

I strongly agree. It took too long to get the Parker update out, so we need to be better go forward.

Any missing child regardless of circumstances should be high priority to be found and immediate notification to the public puts eyes on them as soon as possible as they are the most vulnerable members of society and should be protected. Given our current world that everyone carries a mobile device in hand its is the best game change for keeping our children safe. This alert is a necessity.

This is vital! With everything that has happened with Parker going missing this has especially demonstrated a gap in policy to protect individuals who need the community most! Having only an Amber Alert ignores the fact that many children with ASD elope and may not understand the danger around them. Having an alert does not hurt anyone but not having an alert can mean detrimental outcomes and late community involvement that could make all the difference. It takes a community- it takes us all.

I hope Parker is found soon and safe. I have a deaf autistic son with medical complexities and this is a parent’s fear personified. The alert should have been sent out sooner. We need an alert system for vulnerable folks.

Seems like common sense and a necessary thing. Do it.
