Alerts for children-adults with disabilities should be a must! Beautiful boy Parker should have received an alert on day 1! This has to change!

Amber alert criteria is too specific. Vulnrable people on the spectrum or otherwise need an emergency alert system

As someone who works with vulnerable individuals, I know how quickly a person can disappear and how critical those first hours are. Every minute truly matters. Alberta has Amber Alerts for abducted children, but there is currently no comparable public alert for vulnerable people whose medical conditions, disabilities, cognitive impairments, or other circumstances place them at immediate risk.
A Vulnerable Persons Alert has the potential to save lives, reunite families, and mobilize communities.

I was driving n the neighborhood that Parker went missing from had there been an alert I would have known to look for him! I also lived in Legacy and perhaps if the dad had done this alert his daughter might not have been under water for 20 mins as she was right beside a park that always had lots of people.

Stats show that 24-48hrs is the best time to find a child alive. This stat decreases as time goes on.

I work with kids with disabilities and Parker being missing for this long just set me off the wrong way. There is no reason an alert to everyone should wait around 3 days when Parker is already exhausted, starving and dehydrated. If everyone got the amber alert on the first day he went missing, he would have been found already, since it’d be in a secluded area. I pray that he’ll be returned soon enough. Having this Code blue would help with future scenarios just like this.

I work with kids with developmental delays, including Parker, and we need better support to get them help quicker than 48 hours later like this time. They’re vulnerable and time is so important in these situations

As someone who has spent over a decade working with and caring for many disabled and neurodiverse children, I simply don’t understand how this hasn’t been implemented before now. Time is so crucial. The delays in disseminating can have lethal consequences and while I can’t speak for every citizen, I can certainly speak for myself and say I’d happily be disturbed by an alert at any hour regardless of how long it’s been since the disappearance, if it means saving a vulnerable individual’s life.

This cannot happen again where a vulnerable person is left without people knowing they need help for so long. Parker could have been found if people had known he was missing.
