The ancestors of modern Belarusians took part in the Battle of Grunwald as soldiers of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. They served in military banners raised in Polotsk, Vitebsk, Navahrudak, Hrodna, Brest, Pinsk, Lida, and other lands that are now part of Belarus.

Belarusian culture and history is under the huge pressure in its own country. Hundreds of thousands people had to move out, cannot return and feel like they were cut off their roots. This gesture would help those people feel more connected with the European values and people.
