We, the undersigned students, ask that the Thapar hostel timing be changed to 10:30 pm instead of the current 8:30 pm. The present timing is too early and feels archaic to many of us, especially when student life, classes, group work, library study, lab work, and other campus commitments often continue well into the evening.
A hostel timing of 8:30 pm does not reflect the way students actually live and study today. It leaves little room for late academic work, meetings, or even basic flexibility when plans run over. Many students feel rushed and constrained by a rule that no longer fits the needs of the community. A change to 10:30 pm would give us more reasonable freedom while still keeping a clear and responsible hostel schedule.
This is not about avoiding discipline. It is about making a practical rule that respects student routines and supports a healthier campus life. A fair timing would help students manage their time better, reduce stress from unnecessary rushing, and create a more balanced hostel environment.
We therefore request the hostel authorities to revise the current timing to 10:30 pm. We believe this small but important change would be more suitable, more modern, and more in line with the daily needs of the students at Thapar.
The curfew makes it hard to spend the only free time in the day with people we want to.. we get stuck in a confined area with absolutely nothing to do. Curfew would also make it easier for us to order required things be it from Amazon etc
