The research, scholarship, and pedagogical enterprises of members of CCCC deserve a professional home where this work can be actively, critically, and innovatively engaged; respectfully interrogated, understood, and shared; and meaningfully presented in the company of others in and outside of the academic world. If that organization needs to be a new one, then we must make sure that it is indeed a great one.

This community of teacher-scholars has guided me through a 35-year career, and I've needed it every step of the way. We need an independent organization to continue that community for those signing here and those just coming into the field. Stay strong!

4Cs has been the primary forum for teachers of college writing for decades. It was founded by people like Wilma Ebbitt, Richard Larson, and Wayne Booth. An organization like this must be available to this community.

Specific training for writing development helps students at all levels of learning. Nothing can replace independent thinkers in our society, and a focus on writing for multiple audiences and professions is critical to the future of our country. Specific writing courses focus on writing development in ways that simply attaching it to other course cannot.

If NCTE sweeps aside our expertise so easily, it's way past time we build something that better meets the needs of writing faculty, students, and the worlds we're trying to serve. I believe rhet/comp deserves a professional organization that respects the intellectual rigor of the field and preserves adequate space for the college division, in order to better serve institutions of higher ed, writing programs, instructors, students, and the public.

I do not identify with NCTE or its college section, and I will never spend a dime on anything related to NCTE after this. I hope we go truly independent all the way or ally with an org. that centers composition and writing studies.

CCCC has been important to many Latin American writing scholars, and initiatives such as the Marcuschi Award have been instrumental in enabling many of us to visit, engage with, and become part of the writing studies/composition community. This is an opportunity to build a new structure that fosters stronger international connections across our communities.
