Decision Makers: World Health Organization

Our message: Every person deserves support, hope and the chance to be heard.

We, the undersigned, call on governments, schools and community organisations in Türkiye and around the world to strengthen suicide prevention and mental health support.

We ask decision-makers to:

  1. Improve mental health education. Help children and young people understand mental health, recognise when someone may be struggling and learn how to seek help.
  2. Strengthen school support. Make trusted adults, trained school counsellors and clear routes to professional help available to pupils.
  3. Make support accessible. Improve access to affordable, age-appropriate mental health services, regardless of a person's background or where they live.
  4. Prevent bullying and isolation. Promote safe, inclusive communities where everyone is treated with kindness and respect.
  5. Raise awareness of suicide prevention. Teach people how to respond compassionately when someone expresses emotional distress or suicidal thoughts.
  6. Listen to young people. Include children and young people in decisions about the mental health services and programmes that affect them.
  7. Support families and educators. Provide reliable information to help parents, carers and teachers support those who are struggling.

We ask national and local authorities, schools and relevant international organisations to consider these requests and explain what practical steps they can take.

Mental health deserves attention. Asking for help should never be a source of shame.

Every life matters. Every voice deserves to be heard. Every person deserves support.

Signed by supporters from Türkiye and around the world.
