Documentary why we need STEM CENTER in FBISD

The Issue

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?
Fort Bend ISD serves over 78,000 students across 80+ campuses, yet has zero dedicated after-school space for competitive robotics and advanced engineering. While neighboring Katy ISD built the 24,000 sq. ft. Robert Shaw Center, award-winning Fort Bend students are forced to build out of cramped residential garages, school cafeterias, and maintenance closets.

WHY DO WE NEED A DEDICATED STEM CENTER?

• No Precision Tools: No common FBISD facility provide access to advanced tools like - CNC mills, waterjets, or precision metal cutting, forcing students onto basic hand tools.
• No Regulation Practice Fields: Teams enter State regionals without ever testing autonomous routines or strategy on official competition fields.
• Reese CTE Center Limitations: The Reese CTE Center operates on daytime vocational classes (culinary, auto, HVAC) and cannot accommodate evening or weekend robotics teams.
• Closing the Equity Gap: Nearly 48% of FBISD students are economically disadvantaged. Title I campuses lacking private booster budgets are systematically left behind.

WHY NOW?

Modern careers in AI, robotics, aerospace, and energy demand real hands-on mechatronics experience. Surrounding districts are heavily investing in STEM complexes—leaving Fort Bend ISD  graduates at a competitive disadvantage for university admissions and workforce careers.

WHAT ARE WE DEMANDING?

We call on the Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees and Sugar Land City Council to formally include a dedicated STEM & Robotics Innovation Campus in the upcoming 2027 FBISD Capital Improvement Bond.

Our students have proven what they can achieve in garages. Sign and share this petition to give them the space to build the future!

As a FTC high school Robotics competitor, A dedicated STEM center for FBISD will allow us and many other driven students to expand opportunities and skills. We have had many issues with not having proper materials or tools to complete our tasks, and this STEM center will allow us to have access to tools while providing a safe and educational center for thousands.

Robotics is essential, core skill necessary for today’s tech enabled workforce. FBISD currently lacks support facilitation for STEM-enabled eduction, specifically there is no infrastructure and sponsorship for programs like FTC/FRC, VEX, DI etc. that are core K-12 competitive programs that enable students this baseline skillset while allowing them to collaborate and learn alongside their peers and mentors in a safe, equitable environment.

As a parent of STEM enthusiast kid it is a responsibility to help our kid explore and nurture their interests towards science and having a dedicated center can build a base for expanding knowledge through sharing and interaction with community at all levels just like a school.

A dedicated Robotics/STEM center will enhance hands-on STEM education, foster innovation, and prepare students for future careers.
