We don't need to discourage people from starting businesses. Also I'm concerned because our taxes keep rising and it is hard for people to make ends meet.

Gross Receipts Tax, irregardless of Profit? I’m meeting with an advisor on starting a small business, that probably will take a significant period of time to build client base. There is considerable risk. Then I hear about this new tax on gross receipts … are you serious? After all the other taxes and tax increases?
You can’t be serious… this is actually unserious.

I have lived and worked in this county for 40 years. I pay taxes on my home, my cars and on my business property. The big green signs on I95 say Stafford is a business friendly community. Start taxing the small, individually owned businesses and you will lose them. The corporate businesses may be able to afford this but the little guys that make up our community can not. We already pay the employees, Federal Government and State Government most of us can absolutely not afford to pay more.

Stafford is causing too big of a burden on businesses. This tax will be passed onto the residents of Stafford. I do all my shopping and eat at local restaurants in order to keep taxes in Stafford but I will now have go to other counties to save money and I am sure so will many more residents. I want to see our county grow into a great business community which it has the potential to be since we are located halfway between DC and Richmond, this tax would discourage businesses not entice them

I love my pharmacy and my pharmacist. It is convenient to where I live and he takes the time to explain interactions when I have questions. I would hate for him to go out of business because of more taxes.

We have a couple Pizza Hut restaurants in the Stafford area and have experienced tremendous cost increases in the past several years. Our year-to-date profit is less than 2% of sales and any additional tax, particularly one on gross sales, will make it very difficult for us to remain in business.

Taxes have gone crazy because the county fails to cut where they need to cut. As a 20+ year resident of Stafford, I am looking forward to a time where we can move some place with more sensible politicians and get out of this tax and spend county.

Taxes are already too high for businesses and residents! We need elected officials to be fiscally responsible when it comes to spending our tax dollars. Smarter fiscal spending equates to lower taxes and prosperity for Stafford County residents.

We pay enough taxes. Maybe the board should try to entice other businesses that will give back to the community, i.e. a YMCA, a sports complex, movie theater, etc. yeah we get a Buccees, but I’m not going to hang out for fun there, or go to a movie or restaurant or play sports there.
