Save the Trees and Clean Air on the California Coastal Trail

I want energy savings and commuting options. But this initiative is ill conceived. Trains roll by 70% empty. There are other locations for a Siding project with far fewer adverse effects. Ripping up hundreds of trees - Oak, Monterey Cypress, Sycamores and Eucalyptus is poor judgement when there is little benefit and many alternatives. Money is scarce. We should spend money on projects where we have a high confidence in the ROI for the public who is ultimately paying for this.

Hundreds of people use this coastal trail every week.. The trees are irreplacable. I understand rail travel is important (I use the train), but his is the wrong place to put the siding.

There are many old growth California Natuve protected oaks in addition to the Eucalyptus trees which provide habitat for raptors and other animals that would need to be removed. This would ruin one of the most lovely stretches of land in Carpinteria.

I am particularly concerned as these trees act as a migratory stop for Monarch Butterflies and house different species of coastal birds. Other species, like turtles, call this area home. Removing the habitat will have detrimental effects on these, and potentially other, protected species.
