I am a coastal sailor. Even though I do not go off shore yet, I have recently purchased a Starlink for that future purpose. The ability to stay connected, download updated weather and navigation has been a game changer for safety for sailors. To remove or decrease its capabilities which sailors have become reliant on is irresponsible and seems to be based in greed. I hope that this change gets reversed.

We usually stay in the Bahamas for 5 months, traveling to places that have no cell service! Starlink has kept us safe with current weather and events!

As a full time liveaboard family starlink has enabled our children to do distance education whilst travelling on our catamaran through the waters of the Caribbean, USA and multiple European countries. It has also allowed us to access weather updates and safety information in a timely manner. It has given us an affordable way to stay in touch with family and friends, arrange entry to ports, access important information, fill immigration and customs forms prior to arrival.

The continued 90 day restriction for switching countries seems unnecessarily punitive with the new 30 day roam restriction. I had started planning on visiting the Caribbean this winter, but the idea that I would lose my starlink connection if weather forced me to extend over 30 days has changed my plans.

We are a family that lives on a sailboat and relies on Starlink to stay connected to much needed weather info, and to family back home. We can’t simply “return to home country” to reset every 30 days. That’s not how sailboats work.

If Starlink wants to be the revolutionary and disruptive communications company it claims to be, it must find a better way to allow users to Ravel the world within regulatory requirements. Dont impose difficulties where there are none.
