We are asking Virginia Beach to redesign Bayville Park Skate Park so it truly caters to beginner riders.
Right now, Virginia Beach does not have a skatepark that focuses on beginner riders. Whether people are skateboarding, riding BMX, scootering, or doing roller sports, most skateparks in our area are built for advanced users. That leaves many newcomers, younger riders, and families with nowhere welcoming to learn, practice, and grow.
A beginner-friendly park would make a real difference. We want simple, mellow transitions and obstacles that are 3 feet or lower. Features like these help riders build confidence, improve safely, and enjoy the park without feeling pushed into terrain that is too difficult. A well-designed beginner area also creates a better path for long-term participation in skating and related sports.
Bayville Park Skate Park is currently underutilized because of its poor design. That is a missed opportunity for the community. With a redesign centered on beginner riders, Bayville could become a place more people use and enjoy, instead of a space many feel shut out from.
We urge Virginia Beach to invest in a skatepark design that welcomes beginners, supports safe learning, and serves the full range of riders in our community.

As it stands, this is the worst park I’ve been to in my life. Kids attempting to learn here are likely to be seriously injured due to the odd layout and unfriendly obstacles. Please fix it.
I would love a beginner place to skate- my daughter wants to skate but gets intimidated at some of the other parks.
I am the director of the crimes Virginia amateur skateboard league, and I teach beginners. It would be nice to have a place that is not so intimidating for people to learn.
This is a great suggestion because that is wasted space now, the way it’s set up, no one likes it or goes there!

The current setup is poorly designed and offers next to nothing. A real pump track would be great, not like the one at Brigadoon Pines.
I still skate at 58 and would love a smaller park for myself and teaching kids

Skating has always created a space for people of all kind and ages all over to learn discipline, respect, sanctuary and friendship. To understand what it’s like to get up and try again. That repetition and dedication can lead to desired goals. Everyone deserves an opportunity to integrate into a community like this. Offering a more diverse park opens up the opportunity for people to feel confident and build the bridge between uncertainty and curiosity
