I live on Tidy Island on Sarasota Bay. I strongly oppose Aqua by the Bay encroaching into the bay in any way. I also oppose the hardscape wall which will project water right on to Tidy Island and my home. This plan will destroy the precious plant & animal life that is so abundant now. The proposed sea wall and hardening of the coast line will adversely impact neighboring communities during high water or storm surge events, placing people and property in harm’s way. It will also have a damaging impact on the bay and its ecosystem systems which rely on mangroves as fish and wildlife habitat.

The natural beauty and functional ecosystem of Tampa Bay and Sarasota Bay continues to be threatened by (over)development. In the case of the proposed development among pristine wetlands along the Long Bar Pointe section of Sarasota Bay (application for Permit SAJ-2015-0153), the proposed backfill and 8-10 foot wall should not proceed unless and until a proper and through environmental review is conducted.

This sea wall will be a danger to life and property every time there is another storm surge and/or hurricane in the future. My second concern is economic. Wetlands are where the fish start. Lose the nursery habitat and you lose the fisheries, the charters, the commercial fleet, and the customers who follow them. That is not a temporary cost to this village; it is permanent, and it lands on the people who live and work here. They can build somewhere else.
