I oppose approval of this permit as it's currently proposed. It will reduce or eliminate a functioning natural wetland buffer and replace it with a hardened wall. It can cause the loss of mangrove habitat, reduced fish nursery areas, shoreline erosion, and greater flood risk.

A no‑buffer wetland development is not stewardship. It’s preventable harm. A wetland without a buffer cannot protect us — not from runoff, not from flooding, not from habitat loss. And once it’s damaged, it’s gone for good. The community is watching. Two Manatee County commission seats are on the ballot this August, and voters will remember who protected Manatee County’s natural resources and who allowed unnecessary damage.

Sarasota Bay was designated by Congress as an Estuary of National Significance. It is imperative we protect this critical habitat for fish, wildlife, and the community. This means protecting the buffer to remove excess pollutants before they reach the estuary.
