I oppose approval of this permit as currently proposed. The project would place nearly 2,500 residential units, commercial development, fill, and an 8- to 10-foot wall next to Sarasota Bay’s mangrove wetlands. The proposal appears to reduce or eliminate a functioning natural wetland buffer and replace it with a hardened wall. Mangroves need room to migrate inland as water levels rise.
