Agree that the current policy is punitive towards all. Focus on the students and families that have bad attendance. Reward high performing students with privileges during free periods.

Even though I don’t have a free period this year the effects of these new rules still seem overly serious and ineffective as they don’t even try to stop the route of the attendance problem and instead just penalize all students making it a more stressful environment.

These policies are overly restrictive on the activities of students, which is obnoxious. I miss it when I didn't have to get interrogated for being in the bathroom. Additionally, those hall passes are disgusting.

Senior year is hard enough for added pressures. Plus, students have to take time off for college visits. They should not be penalized.

As a student, I feel trapped in a building for 8 hours after being stripped away of freedoms. Students learn how to navigate their own responsibility during school hours in order to be prepared for college, in which rules like these don’t exist. Students should also not have to show up to school sick and not get proper healthcare because they don’t want their parking spot taken away or to get in trouble. Deerfield has stripped away personal freedom and sanitation, choosing reputation over safety

High school is supposed to be a time that prepares you for the autonomy and freedom of college and beyond. Being able to use judgment about where you spend free periods, using the halls, buying food during passing periods, etc. is a perfect low-stakes way to work on responsibility and time management.
In addition, the bathroom/nurse passes are absolutely vile. Almost all of them smell, there are only a few per study hall, and they are just overall unsanitary.

While I understand the importance of the closed hallways policy, it makes us students feel extremely claustrophobic, keeping us boxed in for almost 8 hours everyday. Furthermore, I believe that the bathroom passes need to be addressed in a different format, as the current passes spread germs and sickness, and are incredibly unsanitary, using colored stickers, could have been a much better alternative.

The bathroom passes are absolutely disgusting and unsanitary and it just makes me want to hold my bladder rather than touching one of those dirty things. The threat of parking is just ridiculous because if I get my parking taken away I’ll just protest and not show up to school because I won’t have a ride so that’ll be a bigger issue for the school. The closed hallways make me feel unsafe rather than safe because first of all I can’t focus with the hundred other people in my free period….
