My friend sent me this petition from their friend who lives here! I'm originally from the DMV area as well & know how hard it is in the smaller communities and the impact a new store could have!! I fully support it!! Lots of people don't always have the access to go the distance for all their basic necessities!

Food deserts are a serious and persistent issue in rural areas, and these areas are far too often left behind and forgotten by the government. Duffield isn't a town that should wither away and dissolve; it's a beautiful place in a beautiful area and the people there deserve basic human dignity. Do the right thing.

Appalachia as a whole is already the most poverty ridden area in all of America, and tiny towns like ours have been abandoned by state officials for decades. We are not angry enough, for our elderly, for ourselves, for the children. We should not have to travel out of state to get basic needs or spend an outrageous amount of money because we have to buy all needs at a dollar general or gas station. This town is already so abandoned and left behind, if we don’t start somewhere, this city will die

My Mom lives in Duffield and is 82, I take her to the grocery store once a week and she prefers to shop in Duffield and not have to go to Gate City every week.
