As someone involved in community organizing in Toronto’s Chinatown, I’ve seen how important it is that the people who work, volunteer, organize, and build community in Chinatown are actually able to live there too. Chinatowns are living neighbourhoods, not just cultural destinations, and protecting them means creating affordable, community-controlled housing that can remain for generations. I’m very happy to support this project and more cooperative housing in Chinatown!

My Grandfather lived in Chinatown and my dad and mom would bring the family to visit every Sunday to enjoy the Chinatown atmosphere, the residences/people and environment that is now missing these days.

Chinatown is not just a tourist destination. It is an alive neighbourhood community full of people invested in its history, culture and living connections. Housing for this community is essential. Montreal's fight for housing in the face of gentrification and whitewashing is the same fight as Chinatowns all across North America.
