While artificial intelligence will be increasingly useful in solving crimes, surveilling all citizens 24/7 sets a dangerous precendent. Cameras may be necessary in a major city, but let's preserve the human element in our small town of mostly law-abiding citizens.

I believe this is an invasion of our privacy and it is unAmerican to allow this type of intrusive action in our community.

We do not need some big brother watching our every move at all time. Our freedom is important and who knows how it could be used by AI later.

I recognize the arguments in favor of the cameras. I do believe that it is an intrusion to our right to privacy. I joked once that, one day, I will be pulled over by a police drone, and these cameras are the eyes for more than law enforcement. So much science fiction has warned us about a future where rogue AI or authoritarian political governments (or both) have access to this kind of information. Right now, tech companies are getting rich with this stuff.

Flock cameras go far beyond supposed ‘crime fighting’ or, ‘traffic mitigation’. The information they gather is proven to be stored and accessed by corporate partners who have no rights to knowing the movement of our communities. Their usage has proven to have been used to facilitate illegal searches and even false arrests . The cost of these cameras will never outweigh litigation brought by any member of our community wrongfully detained or accused from the stored information.

Mass surveillance is, or used to be, Un-American. When the City Council passed this, I would like to believe they were unaware of the dangers. I hope they revisit the issue.
