Below is a link to my letter to the Agriculture Committee. Sign if you agree. I will print signatures and email to the committee (and all of you) for your records. Feel free to circulate beyond this group.
I am concerned about the potential loss and fragmentation of farmland, disruption to farming operations, impacts on soil and water resources, and the ongoing uncertainty facing rural property owners and communities.
I respectfully ask that the committee examine these issues and hear directly from affected farmers, landowners, agricultural organizations and rural municipalities.

It is vital that there be a proper agricultural study of the consequences of any high speed rail route prior to funding decisions and expropriation.

This plan will add to food insecurity with the destruction of over 500 farms. It will add minimal 10k into homelessness . And there is lives at risk building on volatile Lada Clay in land slide zones and a flood plain

Cost, lack of meanful consultation, impacts on agriculture and rural sectors along route. Use VIA and would do so more, if it provided more reliable and cost effective service.

Rural Belleville is comprised of numerous farms and agri-food businesses. The Alto initiative has demonstrated a lack of transparency and seemingly ignoring the impact it will have in the food and agriculture industries locally, nationally and globally.

We need to protect our farms and farmers now, and in the future. The Alto train will destroy valuable farms & jeopardize our food supply

The Alto track will cause significant disruption to agriculture and communities. From a 200 ft wide fenced corridor that will disrupt farm operations and food production, and movement of farm equipment and emergency vehicles. In addition the route will disrupt or redirect/cut off a significant number of waterways which would affect areas both north and south of the tracks regarding water supply/water table and flooding which would have a detrimental effect upon agriculture and homes.

I am writing as a resident of South Frontenac Township, Ontario, in the federal riding of Lanark-Frontenac , to request that the AGRI Committee undertake a study of the proposed ALTO high-speed rail project's impacts on agriculture and rural communities. I live on my family’s 3rd generation farm. This area has many small mixed farms, farms that feed Kingston and the surrounding area. The Alto high speed train will destroy many of these farms, and as you know farmland is finite and precious.
