I agree that allowing the students to wear PE kit provides a smart and cooler, more comfortable option in this extremely hot weather while remaining 'on brand' for the school. Smart shorts as a permanent uniform option also seems like a sensible option. I also think that student should not have to take their blazers this week, as weather is forecast to be so hot and carrying them to and from school is an additional unnecessary weight for those who can be walking for 30-40minutes.

My son is neurodivergent and sensory issues. The uniform on a normal is hard for him and on a hot day it is near on impossible for him to remain regulated.

As the parent of a child with ASD and ADHD, I support this petition. During hot weather, traditional uniform can increase discomfort, anxiety and fatigue, making it harder for some pupils to concentrate and learn. Temporarily allowing PE kit during periods of extreme heat, and considering tailored shorts as a permanent option, would provide a practical and inclusive solution whilst maintaining the school’s standards.

Reasonable adjustments for summer temperatures should be taken into consideration permanently not just when it’s extreme temperatures. Especially when certain children that are sensitive to temperature, sensory to textures and stimulation find it hard to focus and have anxiety about getting into trouble. Clear guidelines need to be set when a certain temperature is met.

If the children aren’t comfortable in their inappropriately warm clothing, this will cause a distraction meaning they aren’t focusing on their learning which is the whole point in being there. It can also overwhelm neurodivergent kids and cause more difficulties in getting the child to go to school at all.
