We call on the federal government of Canada to implement a teal alert system designed specifically for autistic, neurodivergent, and intellectually challenged children who go missing but do not meet the criteria for an amber alert.
Children in our community disappear regularly. Many lack the ability to communicate their location, navigate safely alone, or recognize danger. They may wander from home, become disoriented in unfamiliar places, or be unable to respond to searchers. Current alert systems leave these children without the rapid public response that could bring them home.
A teal alert would bridge this critical gap. It would mobilize the public and law enforcement when a child from this population goes missing — not based on whether foul play is suspected, but based on the genuine vulnerability of the child and the real urgency of their situation. A teal alert acknowledges that neurodivergent and intellectually challenged children face distinct risks and need distinct protections.
Every day that passes without this system in place, families in crisis lack a tool that could mean the difference between a child found quickly and a child lost for far longer. We know what works: rapid public awareness, widespread distribution of information, coordinated search efforts. A teal alert harnesses these tools for the children who need them most.
We urge the federal government to establish a teal alert protocol immediately. Define clear criteria based on the child's age, neurodivergent or intellectual disability status, and circumstances of disappearance. Partner with provincial and territorial authorities to ensure consistent implementation. Ensure that every missing child in this vulnerable population receives the same urgent public response that other alert systems provide.
Our children belong with us. They deserve a system built for their safety. Implement the teal alert now.

This is incredibly important to me because every missing child is vulnerable, and every child deserves the same urgency and protection. A child going missing should be enough reason for an alert to be sent out IMMEDIATELY. Whether they are lost, vulnerable, or in danger, every minute matters. It is heartbreaking and incredibly upsetting that this little boy, who is autistic, was missing for two days before an alert was sent out. I have a special needs son and if it was my kid missing I would want an alert out asap, not have to 'wait to meet criteria'

I have a Grandson that’s 20 yrs old neurodivergent and a risk to elope. He is drawn to water and still is not able to function in everyday life without one on one care. My biggest fear is him wandering off from his group home and getting lost as Parker did in Calgary. There needs to be a Teal alert to protect the vulnerable .
Vulnerable children need to be protected! God please protect and bring Parker back home safely
